We have adopted the 4-4-0 class steam locomotive as our mascot. In it's day it was affectionately called the "Pine Knot Special" because it used wood as fuel. This particular model was used in the early 1900's on the L&N  railroad that ran through the middle of our county for over 65 years. This  railroad system was closed by 1971. We feel that this locomotive and railroad best represent an image of  the history of Baldwin County during the 19th century.

A replica of the "Pine Knot Special" is under construction and should be ready to lead the county-wide celebration & parade during our Bicentennial year of 2009. It will be a self-propelled vehicle that is D.O.T certified to operate on the highway. Additional units are being planned for future celebrations. You may see our progress at the Museum & Archive.

Our locomotive will be 12.5 feet high, 8 feet wide and 30 feet long. The combined length with it's supporting Tender car will be almost 60 feet. It will be able to carry 40 to 60 passengers during the parade which will take 3 days to complete.  Our goal is to have a celebration and parade at each town in the county. The train will travel approximately 400 miles during it's 3 day trek through Baldwin County.
